Working on Collins Avenue…
It’s been over a month since my last blog entry. In the footnotes of which, I eluded to the time being right to look at new material. It’s been a few years since ‘Catherine Street’ was released and the space I’m in ‘musically’ has changed because of that exploration into what can be achieved.
The learning curve that was the 2014 demo album has derived the style that will be the foundation for the new mini-album, ‘Collins Avenue’ – and it’s great to be writing in that almost ‘definitive’ style rather than exploring new sounds.
Not that trying out new things isn’t at the core of my creative process. These last few months have been spent writing for another band. Largely keyboard and in an ‘electronic’ style, it has been great to use this project to explore new instruments and genres.
For ‘Collins Avenue’, a little time has spent re-engineering some of the songs off the original demo album, but studio time beckons to lay down some new guitar and vocals – along with some vintage organ sounds for the new compositions, ‘Zwerg’ and ‘The way I see you’.
The plans are that the album will be released sometime later this year – no deadline (the joy of being indie). A few singles will be released in the meanwhile – and AKoP can be heard on the great internet radio stations who champion ‘indie’ – like The Shift, 365 Radio Network, Beyond the dawn, Rockers Dive etc. (as ever, a big THANKS goes to these guys here in the UK and in the USA).
See you on the other side of the studio time #justperfect
